Sports Medicine Fellowship
Our Mission
The sports medicine track is designed to provide advanced education, research opportunities, training, and clinical exposure in the field of primary care sports medicine beyond the core residency curriculum. By completing the sports medicine track, residents gain a strong foundation in sports medicine and are well prepared to pursue fellowship training.
Opportunities
Students enrolled in the Sports Medicine Track will:
1. Participate in structured, intensive training in musculoskeletal, trauma, and primary care medicine as it pertains to athletes.
2.Serve as team physicians for Miami-area high schools and University of Miami club sports, with opportunities for mass event coverage and NCAA Division I athletics.
3.Gain clinical experience in sports medicine clinics with mentorship from sports medicine faculty.
4.Conduct scholarly activity in sports medicine and present their work at national conferences.
5.Mentor members of the medical student sports medicine interest group.
6.Participate in community service initiatives, including providing sports physicals for local public and private high school athletes.
Faculty Leadership
Dr. Kristopher Paultre is the founder and faculty leader of the sports medicine track. He’s board-certified in both family medicine and sports medicine, and completed his residency and fellowship at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine/Jackson Health System.
Dr. Paultre holds dual appointments as an associate professor in the departments of orthopedics and family medicine. He provides primary care sports medicine to athletes at all levels, and divides his time between mentorship, clinic work, research, athletic coverage, the Firefighter Cancer Institute, and student health services.
