I was born in Cartagena, Colombia, and raised in the Bronx. I grew up navigating healthcare challenges many immigrant families face—limited access, language barriers, and systemic inequities. Amidst all of that, I too embraced the grit and strength of a New Yorker. These experiences shaped my unwavering commitment to medicine and advocacy. Medical school at Loyola Stritch in Chicago deepened my passion, but fate drew me to Miami at Jackson Memorial Hospital. Family Medicine embodies comprehensive, person-centered care across the lifespan—from birth to women’s health and LGBTQ+ care to serving our elders. It’s where I can truly be an advocate for my patients. Every day in our Family Medicine program, I have the privilege of serving patients from all over the world whose stories mirror my own family’s. Their remarkable resilience despite systemic barriers continuously reminds me why I chose this path. This program’s faculty, peers, and patient population have been transformative mentors on my journey to become a family medicine physician. I’m excited to step into the role of co-chief resident with Dr. Palmero, to serve our colleagues and community, and to continue growing as a leader and physician. Most importantly, I’m committed to bringing joy, heart, and laughter in everything we do.

Stepping into the role of Chief Resident of Family Medicine at Jackson Memorial Hospital is a profound, full-circle moment for me. I was born right here at Jackson to a family that immigrated from Cuba, making this hospital the birthplace of my life and my career. Growing up in South Florida, I witnessed firsthand how crucial culturally competent care and community advocacy are to providing comprehensive healthcare to a population as diverse as ours. These experiences led me to Family Medicine, where I can champion comprehensive, trust-based care for the diverse population that defines our city. Training at Jackson, Miami’s safety-net hospital, has provided me with the daily privilege of giving back to the community that raised me. I am deeply honored to serve as Co-chief with Dr. Bonfante Gonzalez and hope to continue to foster a supportive training environment for our residents while advancing health equity, ensuring our patients receive the high quality and compassionate care they deserve.
