Our residency program is proud to be based on a large academic medical campus that offers diverse clinical experiences and the opportunity to serve Miami’s multicultural patient population.
Our core sites—Jackson Memorial Hospital, the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine medical campus, and the Miami VA Medical Center—are all located within walking distance of one another. Jefferson Reaves, Sr. Health Center, our family medicine clinic, is a five-minute drive from campus. The campus is easily accessible by public transportation and major highways.

Jackson Memorial Hospital
Jackson Memorial Hospital is the primary clinical site for our family medicine residency program. As the one of the largest teaching hospitals in the United States, Jackson Memorial provides a rich academic environment that fosters the training and development of our residents.
Residents gain exposure to a wide range of medical subspecialties across outpatient, inpatient, and emergency care settings. Jackson Memorial Hospital, as the only public hospital serving Miami-Dade County, has more than 1,550 inpatient beds and delivers care to the region’s most underserved populations. This allows our residents to work with complex pathologies while making a meaningful impact in the community.
Residents gain exposure to a wide range of medical subspecialties across outpatient, inpatient, and emergency care settings. Jackson Memorial Hospital, as the only public hospital serving Miami-Dade County, has more than 1,550 inpatient beds and delivers care to the region’s most underserved populations. This allows our residents to work with complex pathologies while making a meaningful impact in the community.
University of Miami Health System
University of Miami Health System (UHealth) is South Florida’s only academic-based health system and serves as the clinical partner of the University of Miami Leonard M. Miller School of Medicine. UHealth combines outstanding patient care, medical education, and cutting-edge research across more than 100 specialties and subspecialties. Residents train in a nationally recognized academic environment with access to advanced clinical care, innovative research opportunities, and a diverse patient population. UHealth is home to renowned centers including Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center, South Florida’s only NCI-designated cancer center, and Bascom Palmer Eye Institute, consistently ranked among the nation’s top ophthalmology programs.
Jefferson Reaves, Sr. Health Center
Jefferson Reaves, Sr. Health Center serves as the clinical home for our family medicine residency program. Located in Miami’s historic Overtown neighborhood, Jefferson Reaves is just minutes from the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine and Jackson Memorial Hospital campus.
At Jefferson Reaves, residents develop clinical and cultural competence by working with patients from a variety of educational, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds. Care is delivered in English, Spanish, and Haitian Creole. Approximately 60 to 70 percent of patients are Spanish-speaking, and 10 to 15 percent speak Haitian Creole. Residents also have the unique opportunity to follow patients longitudinally—caring for them in both outpatient settings at Jefferson Reaves Sr. Health Center and during hospital admissions at Jackson Memorial .

The Bruce W. Carter Department of Veteran Affairs Medical Center is located directly across the street from Jackson Memorial Hospital. It serves veterans from Miami-Dade, Broward, and Monroe counties, and acts as the tertiary referral center for the West Palm Beach VA Medical Center.
Residents have the opportunity to rotate through the VA’s primary care and geriatrics clinics. The Miami VA Medical Center also serves as the base for Jackson Health System’s geriatrics fellowship program, further enriching the resident experience in veteran and geriatric care.
