Diverse Fellowships for Advanced Training and Specialization

Our alumni have matched into several fellowships, including Critical Care (Medical, Surgical, Anesthesia, and Neuro), EMS, Hyperbarics Medical Education, Palliative Medicine, Social EM, Toxicology, and Ultrasound.

Our department offers fellowships in Medical Education, Ultrasound, and Global Health while our institution offers many more.

Medical Education

The Jackson Health System/University of Miami Department of Emergency Medicine offers a comprehensive Medical Education Fellowship designed for emergency medicine physicians seeking to enhance their skills in academic leadership, curriculum development, and teaching methodologies. This fellowship provides a rich learning environment with access to diverse patient populations and cutting-edge educational resources. Fellows receive individualized mentorship, engage in hands-on teaching experiences, and contribute to innovative research projects, preparing them to become leaders in emergency medicine education.

Ultrasound

The Jackson Health System/University of Miami Department of Emergency Medicine Ultrasound Fellowship is a 1 year, EUFAC accredited program designed to train emergency medicine physicians in the advanced use of ultrasound. Fellows train and work clinically in a high-acuity ED with a diverse patient population, learning from expert faculty in both emergency medicine and ultrasound. The curriculum emphasizes point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) applications, research, and education and offers the fellow opportunities to pursue their individual area of interest through partnerships with our Global Health, MedEd and Critical Care sections. This fellowship will equip graduates with the skills necessary to become leaders in the field of emergency ultrasound.

Global Emergency Medicine

The Jackson Health System/University of Miami Department of Emergency Medicine offers a 1 year fellowship in Global Emergency Medicine Fellowship. Our fellowship provides exposure to a variety of Global Emergency Medicine topics while Miami’s proximity to Latin America makes our fellowship the ideal location for projects throughout the region. We maintain academic affiliations and exchanges with several institutions throughout Latin America and welcome visiting residents and junior faculty from around the world.

Fellows are encouraged to pursue their Diploma in Tropical Medicine & Hygiene as well as the ICRC Health Emergencies in Large Populations Course. Fellows will have the opportunity to develop their own grants and areas of interest. Fellowship can be extended to two years to include a joint Ultrasound Fellowship.

Division interests are focused in Latin America and the Caribbean and involve Ultrasound education, development of Emergency Medicine training programs, Emergency Medicine capacity development, as well as Emergency, Prehospital, and Trauma systems development.
