A Message from Leadership

Whatever your passion, whatever specialty you want to pursue, you will get the best training at UM/Jackson. There’s nothing you won’t see in our hospitals, clinics, and other training sites.

Yvonne Diaz, MD, FACP

Designated Institutional Official

Our program will prepare you to take care of an extraordinary range of patients that represent the breadth of our community, from the most underserved and uninsured to executives and CEOs. And because Miami is a global city, and the port of entry for the Caribbean and South America, you will care for individuals with rarely seen diseases, and patients who have never had health care in their life. We get both the most basic and most unusual of cases.

Miami is one of the most diverse communities in the nation and you will train with individuals from around the world who have unique perspectives and skill sets. There is a tremendous richness to our environment that doesn’t exist at any other GME program in the nation — faculty, fellow residents and fellows and the patient population represent the richness and diversity of not just America, but the world.

Whatever your passion, whatever specialty you want to pursue, you will get the best training at UM/Jackson. There’s nothing you won’t see in our hospitals, clinics, and other training sites. If you want to be a researcher, you can do everything from bench research to translational research to clinical trials. If you want to focus on medical education, we have the University of Miami and Gordon Center for Simulation and Innovation in Medical Education. If you want to work with our veterans, you have that exposure in the Miami VA Healthcare System, also located on our medical campus. And if your goal is private practice, academic medicine, or indigent care, your experiences in our health system will leave you more than ready to succeed.

Our goal is to produce physicians who are technically proficient and able to provide compassionate care to patients regardless of backgrounds. You will graduate with the skills to provide quality clinical care, use the most advanced technology, perform scientific research, and be leaders in the medical community – locally and globally.
