Salary and Pay Structure

Your salary is based on your postgraduate year (PGY) level, in accordance with our collective bargaining agreement with the Committee of Interns and Residents.

*PGY-8 is limited to specific ACGME-accredited specialties, such as neurosurgery and plastic surgery.

Additionally:

  • A $75 biweekly pay supplement is provided to all housestaff.
  • Chief residents receive an annual stipend of $2,900, with an additional $700 for committee participation.

Mental Health

University of Miami Miller School of Medicine/Jackson Health System recognizes that mental health is essential to your success and well-being during residency and fellowship training. Jackson offers mental health support to employees, including residents and fellows, through several virtual and in-person resources. For more information, visit JacksonBenefits.org. Through our partnership with Tava and Aetna, residents and eligible dependents have access to comprehensive mental health services, including:

  • Unlimited, no-cost access to licensed therapists and mental health professionals.
  • Confidential, 24/7 support.
  • In-network access through Jackson’s health plans, with services available in person or virtually.
  • Support for anxiety, depression, work-related stress, trauma, and more.
  • Self-guided tools and digital behavioral health resources.

Disability Insurance

Long-term disability: 60 percent of basic monthly earnings (up to $3,500/month), fully covered

Life Insurance

  • $50,000 in basic coverage at no cost
  • $50,000 supplemental coverage available for $60/year

Professional Support and Wellness

  • Annual professional allowance: $2,500
  • Lab coats and scrubs: Three new coats and scrubs each year
  • Meal card: $1,500 per year for use on campus
  • Parking: Discounted rate of $5.54 biweekly
  • Wellness day: Included in your 14 sick days
  • Flexible spending accounts: Available for health and dependent care
  • Vacation time: 28 days annually (includes holidays and weekends)
