Confidential Reporting Resources
Grievance Policy
Programs should adhere to the guidelines the Graduate Medical Education Committee set forth for informal and formal grievance resolution mechanisms. The majority of grievances are typically resolved within the program itself. However, in instances where informal resolution is not possible, individuals may submit anonymous complaints through the GME complaint hotline, reachable at 1-800-684-6457 or contact the office at 305-585-2902. Written requests for formal grievance resolution should be directed to the Designated Institutional Official (DIO). Upon receipt of such requests, a Grievance Committee will be established, and a hearing date will be scheduled. During the hearing, the trainee involved and the Department Chair, or their chosen representatives, will have the opportunity to present evidence, call and question witnesses, and provide statements to defend their respective positions. If desired, individuals are permitted to have legal representation during this process. Decisions regarding grievances will be made by majority vote among the members of the Grievance Committee and will be considered final. After careful deliberation, the Grievance Committee members will review and sign the written decision, which will be provided to the parties involved.
