Application Information

Eligibility:
All of our positions are filled through the National Resident Matching Program. We do not offer out-of-match positions.

How to Apply:
Applications are accepted via the Electronic Residency Application System.

Deadline:
Applications are accepted once ERAS opens until the end of September. Interviews are conducted from the time ERAS opens through the end of October.

Call Schedule

The total number of night calls will be 29 to 30 and weekend calls will be 11 to 12, which is more or less evenly divided between short and long calls. Short call starts from 12 p.m. on weekends until 5 p.m. Fellows will be doing the new consults for that day. Fellows on overnight from Friday long call will rotate at UHealth Tower on established patients and new consults starting from 7 a.m. until 5 p.m.

Program Requirements

Medical Licensing Examination:
All applicants must successfully complete United States Medical Licensing Examination Steps 1, 2 and 3 prior to the start of the program.

Postgraduate Training:
There is postgraduate training required in the form of a successfully completed U.S. internal medicine residency program. Applicants must be eligible for internal medicine board certification.

Visas

The J1-Visa: Alien Physician Program, sponsored by the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates, is the standard visa for residents/fellows who are not U.S. citizens or permanent residents.

Nephrology Fellowship

Mission & Vision

The goal of the Nephrology Fellowship Program is to provide advanced education and experience to enable fellows to deliver compassionate, thorough and evidence-based care to a medically and socially diverse population of patients. This includes inpatient and outpatient consultation; acute and chronic dialysis, including continuous modalities and outpatient consultation and chronic kidney disease care, including the care for renal allograft recipients. The fellow will be provided with educational opportunities required for acquiring board certification in the subspecialty of nephrology and has the opportunity to be mentored toward an academic clinical or basic science research career.

The philosophy of the program is to develop a commitment and dedication to scholarly excellence in patient care, teaching and research in an environment of professionalism.

Clinical Track

Two-year clinical pathway:
With the option of tailoring the second year to the fellow’s specific area of interest: Glomerulonephritis focus, transplant focus (does not count as transplant fellowship), in-center and home dialysis focus.

Three-year clinical pathway:
Transplant Nephrology – two years general nephrology and one year transplantation.

Four-year clinical pathway:
ICU-Nephrology – two years nephrology and two years critical care

Research Track

Six-year physician scientist ABIM pathway:
Two years internal medicine, three years research and one year nephrology.
