We participate in the National Resident Matching Program.

How to Apply:
Applications are accepted via the Electronic Residency Application System.

Deadline:
Applications are accepted from July to October. Interviews are conducted from August to October.

Call Schedule

12-13 weeks of call per year.
No overnight in-house stay required; phone calls and weekend rounds when on-call.

Program Requirements

Medical Licensing Examination:
All applicants must successfully complete United States Medical Licensing Examination Steps 1, 2 and 3 prior to the start of the program.

Postgraduate Training:
There is postgraduate training required in the form of a successfully completed ACGME-accredited residency in internal medicine or family medicine.

Visas

The J1-Visa: Alien Physician Program, sponsored by the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates, is the standard visa for residents/fellows who are not U.S. citizens or permanent residents.

The University of Miami/Jackson Health System Geriatric Medicine (Internal Medicine) Fellowship Program is under the auspices of Jackson Memorial Hospital, an accredited, non-profit, tertiary care hospital and the major teaching facility for the University of Miami, Leonard M. Miller School of Medicine.

Our fellows rotate through various sites including Jackson Memorial Hospital; Bruce W. Carter Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center; Joseph L. Morse Geriatric Center in West Palm Beach and Leon Medical Centers.

Clinical Experience

Our Geriatric Medicine (Internal Medicine) Fellowship Program trains fellows in preparation for achieving board certification as a practitioner and educator/researcher of geriatric medicine. The program emphasizes broad clinical exposure, scholarship, self-instruction, development of critical analysis of clinical problems and the ability to consult in complex biological, psychological and social aspects of geriatric assessment and management.

Research Opportunities

  • The Bruce W. Carter Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center houses the Geriatric Research, Education and Clinical Center, one of 20 VA Centers of Excellence in aging, longevity and geriatric research. There are multiple opportunities to pursue research in basic science, clinical, translational and health services research. Our main areas of focus are frailty and stem cell therapies.
