Program Requirements

Medical Licensing Examination:
All applicants must successfully complete United States Medical Licensing Examination Steps 1, 2 and 3 prior to the start of the program.

Postgraduate Training:
Candidates must be MDs or DOs who have completed at least two years of residency training in pathology in an ACGME-accredited program. Candidates must be board-eligible or certified in anatomic pathology and licensed in Florida or eligible for Florida medical licensure.

Visas

The J1-Visa: Alien Physician Program, sponsored by the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates, is the standard visa for residents/fellows who are not U.S. citizens or permanent residents.

Welcome to the University of Miami/Jackson Health System Selective Pathology – Genitourinary Pathology Fellowship Program which offers one accredited position, designed to provide advanced in-depth training in genitourinary pathology from three major institutions, including a multidisciplinary cancer center (Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center), a large tertiary hospital (Jackson Memorial Hospital) and private hospital network (UHealth Tower).

Welcome to the University of Miami/Jackson Health System Selective Pathology – Genitourinary Pathology Fellowship Program which offers one accredited position, designed to provide advanced in-depth training in genitourinary pathology from three major institutions, including a multidisciplinary cancer center (Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center), a large tertiary hospital (Jackson Memorial Hospital) and private hospital network (UHealth Tower).

The fellowship is geared toward the advance study in diagnostic surgical pathology. Elective rotations in relevant subspecialties are also available.

The fellow will supervise residents with the attending pathologist and is expected to take an active role in intraoperative consultations. Additionally, fellows will be primarily responsible for multidisciplinary clinical-pathological conferences and tumor boards and will attend a week-long, research-oriented “boot camp.”

Clinical Experience

Year 1

The fellow will rotate in the genitourinary service performing evaluation of both Jackson Memorial Hospital and UHealth genitourinary pathology specimens with emphasis in bladder; kidney; penile and testis and prostate pathology, including neoplastic diseases of children and adults. In addition to surgical pathology rotations in these areas, the fellow will have clinical rotations in cytogenetics/molecular biology; medical oncology clinics; radiation/oncology and urology.
